
Jazmine was a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised there. Pam the mother of Jazmine was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years old, her dad landed an appointment as the curator for Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the historic landmark. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with the vocal music major. Sullivan was a contralto for the children's choir and later sang in the adult chorus. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. She recalls that she was eleven when someone wanted her to sing as a soloist at church. But, she wasn't enough yet to be ready. "I was lucky enough to be chosen for an McDonald's competitionwhich gave kids from the major cities the chance to sing "Accept what God Allows'. The audience responded very well." In the year 13 she sang along in a duet with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. She was signed to Jive Records in the year fifteen. She recorded an entire album but this album didn't get released. Sullivan was later removed from the record label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott, who produced a number of the tracks for her debut project, which included the hit single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
